WHY IS MY SPOUSE DOING THIS?!

Precious Ones, A common question that Les and I are asked is: Why is my spouse doing this? We want to share with you a "simple" answer that we have shared. (This is written pertaining to a marriage in which both are believers but one is in a backslidden state.)

You have to remember that your spouse is "spiritually sick". That's why you are not to go by what they say, but by what God says! Right now, under the influence of Satan, your spouse will even lie and not care! And there's no use in getting "mad" at them or you will be falling right into the enemy’s plan! I remember the Lord telling me that Les wasn’t even going to remember much of the valley because he was so taken over by the enemy of his soul, so why get mad at him?!

Picture this scene: A strongman has your spouse held captive, bound in a building being held hostage. You make it into the building and find your spouse, only to then start yelling at them and telling them to quit acting like this and to get home! This sounds ridiculous, right? It would do us no good to yell at our spouse or to be upset with them, due to the situation that they are in. But this is exactly what we do when we do not see through the eyes of God’s Holy Spirit! No, you would look past your spouse into the eyes of the enemy and take authority over the strongman to loose your spouse, in Jesus Name! You would even be overcome with Holy Ghost anger at the strongman to fight for your spouse’s freedom. That's the situation your spouse is in and you're the only one that will pray and war enough to see them set free! But do you see how we fall for the strategies of Satan so easily? When we walk by what we see and hear and not by the Word of God we fail! We fall! We quit! We even blame God!

I remember during our valley the Lord would tell me not to believe what I saw with my eyes or heard with my ears or I would fall for the devil’s scheme. I must keep my ear to God’s heart and trust what GOD’s Word told me. He showed me a vision of Les hunkered down in a corner whimpering like a little child. But there were demon spirits all around him, laughing and mocking him. God told me that THIS is what was really happening. I remember when God asked me, “Can a fly free itself from a spider’s web”. I said No, they might struggle and struggle to get free but the spider’s web is too sticky and strong. Then God spoke to my heart and said, BUT SOMEONE could cut it free! God said Les was stuck in a spider’s web and he could NOT free himself. Was I willing to intercede and pray and do spiritual warfare (obeying God) for my husband to see him set free from the snare of Satan, all purchased and made possible through Jesus’s victory on the Cross?!

The Lord also showed me another vision of Les laying on an operating room table with God doing open heart surgery on him. If this was happening in the natural, in a hospital, would I be pounding on the operating room door demanding that the doctor hurry with the surgery, that I was in too much pain and the waiting was “killing” me?! This sounds crazy, but isn’t this we do when we look through our eyes and believe what WE see? God was doing eternal open heart surgery on Les and He expected me to trust Him as the Great Physician and wait patiently for His perfect work to be accomplished. Did I really want Him to pull Les off the table before He was done just so it would be over?! This was eternal life or death and God was doing just as much work IN ME! At a hospital I would sit in the “waiting room” praying to God to heal Les completely and safely bring him through the open heart surgery. Likewise, this is what God wanted for me during this spiritual “surgery”. All Glory to God! HE DID!!!

Let us ask God today to help us walk in His Spirit; See through His Spirit; Hear His Spirit and OBEY His Spirit, NO MATTER WHAT!

Psalms 119:105 – “Thy word a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Zechariah 4:6 – “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
